When I chose BALANCE as our focus for June, it got me thinking about my own journey.
There was a time when balance didn’t exist in my life.
I was running a busy physiotherapy business, raising two young boys on my own, managing a home and trying to be everything to everyone.
My needs were always at the bottom of the pile.
I never rested.
I slept because I had to, but I didn’t really stop.
I was constantly doing, constantly giving and constantly putting myself last.
Looking back, I’m not surprised I developed Graves Disease. Stress had become my normal.
My body was constantly in “go mode” and eventually it said, “Enough.”
That experience taught me something I now share with my clients all the time:
Health isn’t created by constantly pushing harder.
We need to challenge ourselves and step outside our comfort zone sometimes.
But we also need rest and recovery.
We need time for others, but we also need time for ourselves.
The problem is that many of us are brilliant at keeping going.
We’re not always so good at slowing down.
As women, especially in midlife, life can feel like a constant balancing act between work, family, relationships and responsibilities. It’s easy to convince ourselves that we’ll rest later.
But later often never comes.
These days, instead of focusing on what’s next on the to-do list, what needs doing, or who needs me, I try to pause and ask myself one simple question:
“What do I need today?”
Sometimes the answer is a strength workout.
Sometimes it’s a walk or run outdoors.
Sometimes it’s stretching, meditation or simply having a nap.
Balance isn’t about getting everything perfect.
It’s about listening to your body and giving yourself what you need.
That’s why our focus this month is Balance.
Alongside strength and movement, we’ll also be making space for mobility, stretching, relaxation and breathwork.
Because true wellbeing isn’t found in doing more.
It’s found in creating the right balance between effort and ease.
So let me leave you with this question:
What area of your life feels most out of balance right now?
